Canterbury Park Today

Canterbury Park continues to hold its mid-week and night racing meetings over the summer months, unfortunately crowd numbers had been down going down steadily into the late 2010’s including the popular night racing events.

A decision was made to forego the entry fee on Night racing at the beginning of the 2017 summer season and introduce food trucks, kids and adult entertainment, all free, to bring in the families. It was a great success, crowds in excess of 8000 are reported regularly on nights where the weather is fine !

Debate continues at the ATC over whether to sell some or perhaps all of Canterbury Park when the 10 year moratorium put in place in 2010 under the “Merger ACT” will expire at the beginning of 2021.

In 2017 the ATC partnered they with well known property developer Mirvac to develop one of the carpark areas to the east of the course for residential apartment development (ATC Annual Report 2017) , despite strong opposition from the local community, the project is still under consideration.
